lord, It was a symbolic acknowledgment to the lord that the vassal was, literally, his man (homme). More generally, it included any formal profession of reverence to a sovereign.

"The Lord" (Hebrew Adonai, Greek Kyrios, Latin Dominus) is an epithet of Yahweh, the God of the Jews and Christians.

"Our Lord" is also used as a name for Jesus by Christians.
